Time....Timing....

Do you ever feel like there is never enough time to do what you want to do and need to do? Wants and needs are of course quite different, so the need to do list usually takes the lead when stealing your time, leaving you feeling cheated when there isn't enough time to do what you want. Is there a way to make time work in your favor?

Writers juggle this skill every day. Some I hear, set a timer to get the writing done before their to do list. Others do the to do list- laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc, before they ever sit down to write. Hence they may write very late at night when all the to do list is done or not at all. How can any of us find the balance to what we want to do and what we need to do?

The best advice I have found to manage my time is this. Schedule your "want to do" on  your calendar just like you would any other important activity. It doesn't matter if it is a nap, reading a book, writing, painting, studying or developing a new skill, managing your online business, meditating, praying, spending time alone to just think, or working on a prized project..... schedule time to do it.

Disconnect from social media, turn of the TV, silence your phone...do what it takes to make the time for your want to do activity. The results will be amazing.
  • feeling in control of your time
  • feeling refreshed
  • feeling productive
  • feeling ready to do those have to tasks without resentment
The result of making time for at least one of your "want to do" items may improve your skills or lead to a more financially lucrative job you have been seeking. It may give you personal satisfaction or it may teach you patience. It may not enhance your job but it may enhance your appreciation for others. It may give you nothing that you think you are seeking or it may give your everything you didn't know you needed.

I can promise you though, you wont know until you take some control of your time, and doing that may make a world of difference in your goals, your progress, and your attitude.

  1. Great advice! I definitely need to take control of my time. I have a hard time focusing with chaos around but that often leads to dealing with the chaos for too long leaving little time for the writing some days. All about balance:)
